A. Ryugaku on ICU Exchange Program and Study Abroad Program
- In principle, students going abroad on the ICU Exchange Program pay regular tuition and Facilities fees to ICU and are exempted from payment of tuition at the institution abroad. Students who participate in the Study Abroad Programs (CIEE, IES program) are exempted from payment of ICU's tuition and Facilities fees. However, they need to be responsible for their program fees. As these are official university programs, students participating in these programs are exempted from payment of Ryugaku fees. These students, however, are expected to pay dormitory, insurance, and other fees required by the host institution.

Before departure:
- (For Students Entered in or before AY2007)
Students in their junior year who need to apply for “Assignment of thesis Advisor” and “Bachelor Candidacy” at the respective division offices should complete the necessary procedures for Bachelor Candidacy
before departure. The EAG will inform the students of the decision of the application in the term when Bachelor Candidacy is expected to be granted.
(For Students Entered in or after AY2008)
Students in their junior year who need to apply for "Candidacy for Senior Thesis Research" at the Educational Affairs Office (EAG) should complete the necessary procedures for Candidacy for Senior Thesis Research
before departure. The EAG will inform the students of the decision of the application in the term when Candidacy for Senior Thesis Research is expected to be granted.
- All students should notify the International Educational Exchange Group (IEEG) of their date of departure and prospective address abroad.
While abroad:
- Students who change their address while abroad should notify the IEEG of the new address without delay.
- Students should request that the appropriate office at the host institution send one copy of the official English transcript of the courses taken and grades earned to the IEEG. (Unofficial transcripts stamped “student copy”, “issued to student”, etc., will not be accepted.)
Upon return:
- Students who have finished their period of Ryugaku must submit the “Report of Return from Ryugaku” and “Kikokutodoke (completion form)” to the IEEG before Registration Day.
- After completing the items mentioned above, students requesting transfer credits should submit a catalog or bulletin and syllabi of the courses taken at the host institution to the EAG.
Please note that different standards are applied depending on a student's division.
◆ Grade Report and Units Table will be mailed to the address abroad of which students notify the IEEG.
B. Ryugaku on a Private Basis
Students wishing to study abroad for a year and to have the units earned and time spent in residence there counted toward ICU graduation requirements should submit a request for approval by the Dean during the announced period and using the prescribed form.
- The institutions at which students wish to study must be chartered and fully accredited as places of higher education by the educational authorities of the particular country. Therefore studying at an extension center / preparatory school / language school are excluded.

Students granted Ryugaku status must pay 1/3 of the regular tuition and facilities fee, as a Ryugaku fee. (Refer to PAYMENT OF UNIVERSITY FEES
)
(For Students Entered in or after AY2008)
Students in their junior year who need to apply for "Candidacy for Senior Thesis Research" at the Educational Affairs Office (EAG) should complete the necessary procedures for Candidacy for Senior Thesis Research
before departure. The EAG will inform the students of the decision of the application in the term when Candidacy for Senior Thesis Research is expected to be granted.
- Students should complete the required form, making sure that signatures have been obtained from the Library, Clinic, Finance and Accounting Group, and Student Affairs Group, as well as from their guarantor and academic advisor.
The completed form should then be submitted, together with a copy of the letter of admission from the relevant institution and written materials which explain the institution, the program to be admitted and your student status at the institution to be admitted. These procedures must be completed before the following dates.

(Deadline shall be the previous Friday in case the date stipulated above falls on a Saturday or Sunday.)
